Quick Start
These are the simplified instructions for people who have never used CasperLet (or any other networked rental system) before. As you will soon see, it's really really easy!
- 1) Unpack your CasperLet shipping crate
- If you wish, you can see a list of what's in the box with links to explain some of the tools in there.
- 2) Rez a new primary/master rental unit
- If the tenant will TAKE OWNERSHIP of the parcel (such as with land sales on an island estate) then the rental unit must NOT be on the parcel they're taking ownership of. This also means prim counting won't work.
- If the landlord is retaining ownership of the parcel that the tenant is renting (such as with vending events or shopping malls), the rental unit should be ON the parcel.
The object names of the primary/master units are as follows: CasperLet Rental Box CasperLet Prim Rental Meter CasperLet Mesh Rental Meter
- 3) Grant debit permissions
- See the debit permissions page for details of what these are and why they should be granted.
- NOTE: If you are re-rezzing a copy of a unit you've already granted permissions for, you won't see another debit perms popup. This is normal. You will, however, still need to reconfigure the re-rezzed unit - re-rezzing loses old configurations.
- 4) Configuring a lot at once? Having a manager do most of the work?
- Rez out all the units - or drag-copy as many as you need - NOW before you start the config process!
- 5) Do you want the rental unit textures to change with rented/available/etc?
- Follow the instructions on the CasperLet customisation page to make sure they STILL change once you're done with configuration. If you make changes without following these instructions, textures will not change with rental states.
- 6) Click the unit and select "Config" from the popup menu
- Simply click ("touch") the rental unit, and select "Config" from the popup menu.
- 7) Let it take you to the website
- Using the link from the rental unit means this will take you to the page where you can set the unit's options, once you are logged in. For example, price, auto-evict, etc.
- 8) Create a CasperDNS account (NOT CasperVend) if necessary. Otherwise, just log in.
- You can find instructions on how to create a CasperDNS account on the passwords page.
- 9) Set desired configuration options, saving each change.
- IMPORTANT: Change only ONE option at a time, and when you have a "save" button for that option, click "save" once it's set!
Renaming Rental Units
- 1) From in-world, change the name of the rental unit
- There is no option to change the name from the website at this time.
- 2) Click the unit, select "reset" from popup menu
- The website needs to pick up the new name from the unit, not the other way around - this is why the menu reset (or "soft reset") is necessary. DO NOT just pick up and re-rez or you will lose the configuration!
- 3) Repeat for each unit to rename
- For each rental unit you want to rename, simply repeat steps 1 and 2 in this section.
Counting Prims
- Rez one prim counter per land owner (NOT per avatar)
- See the prim counter page for usage details, proper setup, and limitations. Group-owned land requires the prim counter to be deeded to that group. Land owned by an individual, but "set" to a group, does NOT require deeding.
- If you want to see an overview of where your units are inworld, you can click on the Regions icon when logged in on the CasperLet website.
- No prim count in rental unit hover text
- As part of the low-lag goals of CasperLet, the prim counter only counts prims every 3 or 6 hours, depending on whether it's an older or newer version. As a result, the hovertext over the rental unit will NOT show the prim count, ever, because it is not updated dynamically (but rather on a lengthy timed basis), and would thus otherwise cause confusion.
