Artificial Incarnation Technologies (often shortened to [Ai] or previously [AiTech]) is a Second Life business that was gradually built from the ground up by Asami Imako starting from mid to late 2008, with the generous help of numerous other residents.
Origins
The name Artificial Incarnation was formed from a desire for a name that could be shortened to 'AI' as a personal signature, yet still describe the business. The original plan was to take real-world designs and bring them into Second Life as "artificial incarnations" of their real-world counterparts. This was eventually expanded to cover any sort of interesting design found across many mediums, usually popular art and stories from the Internet.
Design Philosophy
[Ai] products started very simple, and while growing in complexity, have maintained a standard for minimalism in design. They are often created using the least amount of geometry necessary to properly describe a shape, conservative use of textures to preserve frame-buffer memory, and as few scripts as necessary to minimize simulator impact. This means many products often lack the long list of features from other designers, with the trade-off being better performance, however these features are often excessive or unrelated to the items, so the omission was deemed more beneficial than not. Asami, in her personal blog, was quoted saying "Put your time into doing a few things really well, not everything at a mediocre level."
The Designers
All of the products at [Ai] have been built by Asami Imako, and much of the in-world functionality has been planned by her as well. She has also worked with many different people for the creation of scripts, all of whom have contributed a large portion of the design. The earliest scripting partner was Chandra Magic. More recently, Batche Manen has done a large amount of scripting, along with others such as Arinkum Resident and Myon Kegel. Most recently, Asami Imako has taken on the responsibility of scripting her own products, due to difficulties with the schedules or performance of most others.
The Products
[Ai] carries a variety of products, mainly focusing on a BDSM and fetish market, though there is desire to branch into other markets. The easiest way to get a feel for the products and their focus is to simply visit an in-world location or the Second Life Marketplace store.
Some notable products include: Clockwork Doll Keys, the Rubber Toy avatar, the Bondage Mermaid suit, and the Universal Gag.
Business Information
Asami Imako handles all business inquiries for [Ai] herself, and is generally available for contact during the afternoon and evenings (US Eastern time). Generally any inquiries or requests are responded to within a maximum of 24 hours. The business only operates on the Second Life Grid, and there are currently no plans to expand elsewhere. While historically there have been affiliate vendors provided to specific residents, [Ai] does not have an affiliate program or franchise vendors available, and there are no plans to offer them for the foreseeable future.
