Show Rentals via CasperVend

There is no official Rental Vendor at the time this page was created, so this is a "hacky" workaround.

Be warned, this WILL need regular maintenance on the part of the landlord - there's no way around that at the moment - but this is one way to show the rental parcels/locations you have available via CasperVend.

Rental vendor tickets are here and here if you wish to show support for the idea.

You will need:

It is recommended that you have a SEPARATE "rental avatar" to own the copy of CasperVend that will be used to display the rental parcel/location listings, especially if you have a large estate and you're going to have to share the password among estate managers.

CasperVend does NOT currently "talk" to CasperLet, so it is important to understand that there is no inter-system communication. This is a standalone workaround until Casper Warden can get the rental vendor finished.

Process Overview

  1. Set up CasperLet
  2. Set up Listings in CasperVend for parcels/locations
  3. Set up profile to hold parcel/location listings
  4. Add the parcel/location listings to the profile(s)
  5. Set up a vendor, and point it to the specific profile needed
  6. Customer comes by, clicks vendor for info on a specific parcel
  7. Customer visits, and then rents parcel
  8. YOU (landlord) pulls THAT parcel/location's listing out of rental profile via CV website
  9. Customer eventually decides to stop renting that parcel
  10. YOU (landlord) put that parcel/location's listing back in the rental profile via website

Pros

  • You (landlord) can manage what is in or out of the rental profile via the CV website, without having to chase down the contents of a dropbox all the time.
  • Once the listings are all set up, the work - while manual - is minor: just log in to CasperVend and pull listings in and out of the rental profile(s) as needed.

Cons

  • You (landlord) - and anyone with the login information - are the ONLY one(s) who can manage which parcels/locations are in or out of the profile via the CV website.
  • CasperVend doesn't natively talk to CasperLet, so you can't have the customer pay the vendor to rent the parcel/location - which is why you set the price to L$0 (so they can get the info) and have to manage it manually.

Setup Rental Listings

1) Set up your notecard(s) with info about the rental parce/location (or with general rental information for your business.)
2) Create a "product listing" for each rental listing. For this, you will need:
  • Listing name
  • Product - can leave empty, or set to notecard with info about that parcel/location
  • Texture - a representative picture of either the location, or something giving details like size, prim/impact counts, and dimensions
  • Price - set it to L$0
  • Set permissions however you'd like
  • Landmark to parcel/location OR the rental office
  • Notecard - general info notecard about your rental biz
Leave the rest of the options alone. Remember this is not to actually try to sell the parcel/location from the vendor, but just to give the customer information.
3) Add each listing to a rental profile. See the profiles & groups page for more details.
  • You can group listings in a profile by a per-sim/region basis, or have all the listings across all sims/regions in a single profile. It's just a matter of what seems easier for you to manage.
4) Once all the listings are added to the rental profile(s), rez one vendor for each profile
5) Point each vendor to its own profile
6) Vendor is ready to show the available rentals!

Additional configuration options

On the individual vendor configuration page there is an option to disable the touch menu. Doing this - as long as you set the price to L$0 - will simply deliver the configured notecard(s) and landmark to the customer when they click the vendor.

What happens now?

Once your vendor(s) are set, simply rez them where you want customers to look at your available rental options.

  1. Customer comes by, clicks vendor for info on a specific parcel
  2. A customer eventually rents the parcel/location
  3. YOU (landlord) pulls THAT parcel/location's listing out of rental profile via the CasperVend website
  4. Customer eventually decides to stop renting that parcel
  5. YOU (landlord) put THAT parcel/location's listing back in the rental profile via the CasperVend website
