A Word on Passwords

Do NOT make any password you use for CasperTech sites the same password as you use for anything ELSE, especially your grid account! Doing so runs the risk of multiple points of compromise if someone manages to figure out your password.

If you have trouble coming up with a secure password on your own, you can use the Gibson Research High Security Password Generator.

Creating Your CasperVend Account

When you first rez a Vendor, you need to think of a secure password for your account, which will be requested whenever you make a change. To set this password, please do the following on all EXCEPT the Touch or Headless vendors:

1. Click on the (C)asperVend logo in the bottom left hand corner of one of your vendors.
2. Click "Go To Page" on the popup window with the website link.
3. You should see a website message that says "Welcome, <Your Name>.".
4. Enter a password, and enter it again, then click Save Password.

Use these instructions for the Touch vendor:

1. Click the vendor. You will get a touch/popup menu.
2. Click "Admin"
3. You will get a link in local chat. Open up your chat history and click that.
4. You should see a website message that says "Welcome, <Your Name>.".
5. Enter a password, and enter it again, then click Save Password.

Resetting your Password at Caspervend.com

1. Rez out a vendor and click the logo area - this is your "admin" button. You will need to rez out any vendor EXCEPT the "Headless" vendor to do this ("Touch" and "Headless" don't have an "admin" button by default. "Touch" vendor will have "Admin" on the touch/popup menu.)
2. This will give you a popup menu with a site link, as well as the link in local chat history.

If you do not see this, you will need to unmute yourself.

3. Take that link to the website.
4. You will be presented with a login prompt AND a "I've forgotten my password" link.

You will NOT see the "forgotten my password" link unless you use the link from one of your vendors. This inworld authentication ensures that nobody can reset your password by simply visiting the website and entering your account name.

5. Check the box for "I've forgotten by password"
6. Clear anything that exists in the "Password" field
7. Click "login". The website will add some text to the effect of "A link has been sent to you via instant message inworld. Please click it to verify this request."
8. Open your chat history inworld - you'll have a "Hello! Please click this link to reset your password" message with a link.
9. Click that link. You'll be taken back to the CasperVend website for the password reset page. Type in your new password in both boxes, and click "save password".
10. Once you do that, you'll be logged in to the website. All done!

Creating your CasperDNS.com Account

1. Go to the CasperDNS Login Page. You will arrive at what looks like a login prompt. Don't panic, just keep following the instructions.
2. Enter your desired username.

(It's helpful if your casperdns account name matches your grid name, but not required.)

3. Enter your desired password and click ok. You'll be taken to a new screen.
4. Enter your email address, the same password again, and click ok.
5. You'll be presented with the CasperDNS front page. You are now logged in to CasperDNS at this point and can now do things in the forums, bug tracker, CasperLet (if you have rental units or are a manager on someone else's CasperLet units) and, of course, the CasperTech wiki!

Resetting your CasperDNS password if you've forgotten it

1. First, log out of CasperDNS if you're currently signed in ("Log Out" in the top right).
2. Go to the CasperDNS Login prompt.
3. Click the "lost password" button - you'll be taken to a screen with 3 options.
4. Most likely you'll be using the third option - "I know my avatar name" - so tick that button and type in your SL avatar name (NOT your display name) in the box and click ok.
5. The website will display a message telling you that an IM was sent to you in local chat.
6. Open your chat history inworld and look for this message:

"CasperTech System Message: Hello, [yourname]. You (or someone who has your avatar

name) have requested to reset the password on your CasperTech account. IF YOU DID

NOT REQUEST THIS ACTION - Please ignore this message. IF YOU DID REQUEST THIS

ACTION - Please click the following URL to complete the password reset..."

7. Click the URL. You'll be taken back to the website, with a page asking you to enter your new password in twice.
8. Click "OK"
9. The website will tell you everything is all set. You're done!

Changing your CasperDNS password

1. Head to the CasperLet website and login to your CasperDNS account.
2. Click "Change Password" in the top right, and follow the on-screen instructions.
