Scanning for Vendors

Why Do Vendors Drop Off The List?

They drop off the list due to bad communication issues between Casper's servers and the SL grid. The "HTTP-IN" problem - as Casper explained here - is the reason they drop off. When Casper's servers cannot CURRENTLY contact one or more vendors, and a website scan is run, then naturally it remove any and all vendors that it cannot get communication from.

HTTP-OUT is working much more reliably - this is why a vendor will pop back ON the list when it is used, and why simply not seeing a vendor in the website list, does not impact their functionality inworld.

Missing Vendors In Website List?

Vendors can be missing from the web because they are in a standby mode for a very long period of time, OR when sim/region-to-outside-web communications are not as good as they should be. This also happens by default when the sim has no visitors for a long period of time. It's therefore common for vendors to drop off the list - this is considered normal and not a problem, and the vendors will reappear on the list the next time they are used.

This will NOT cause problems with deliveries or purchases!

If you are concerned about whether they will appear on the list, click each missing vendor and use the "Admin" option in the popup menu.

There is no all-at-once method to return vendors to the list that have vanished due to idling.

Vendors On Website That Shouldn't Be?

This is normal if a vendor has been Edit > Deleted out of the world without using the popup "delete" option, or if the vendor(s) have been sent back to your lost and found.

There are three ways to fix this:

  1. Use the UpgradeBee on "Check All" (do NOT use "force" for this!), in EVERY sim/reigon has has extra vendors showing.
  2. Use the website "Scan" function (Only click it ONCE, and be prepared to wait a while, likely a few hours, depending on the system load.)
  3. Go into "Manage" on each vendor that shouldn't be there, and click "Delete" from the vendor's configuration page.

Please note: NONE of these methods will force a vendor to suddenly appear on the website. These methods will only REMOVE vendors from the site list that shouldn't be there.

Will Not Make Vendors Appear

The website scan - and the "Check All" feature of the UpgradeBees - will only remove vendors that no longer exist, or cannot currently be contacted. Because of the issues with sim/region-to-website communications, this may mean that a check all suddenly shows a lot less vendors than you actually have rezzed inworld. This is an expected consequence of an LL-caused problem.

These functions will NOT "wake up" vendors to appear on the site, no matter how often you run them.

A vendor will function normally inworld when it is next used by a customer, and will appear on the website after that until it idles out again.

Scanning for Rental Units

This is normal if a rental unit has been Edit > Deleted out of the world without using the popup "delete" option, or if the unit(s) have been sent back to your lost and found.

There are two ways to fix this:

  1. Use the website "Scan" function (Only click it ONCE, and be prepared to wait a while, likely a few hours, depending on the system load.)
  2. Go into "Units" tab, tick the boxes for each rental unit that shouldn't be there, then select "Delete".

The scan function does NOT add units to the website list. Rental units will pop back up when they are contactable again, or when you or a customer clicks them and uses one of the functions.

Checking status of "Scan" function

  1. Log in to CasperLet
  2. Click "Job Lots" - you'll see a list of all the scans you've tried to run.

You should have only one listed - if you have several queued, the website will not understand that you only want one run, it will run all of them - in order - and that will exponentially increase the amount of time it takes for the site to check the rental units....again and again and again and again.

"Not Authorized" message when trying to scan

This may happen when you have manager (or higher) access on CasperLet for someone else's system. When the system is told to begin a scan, it will attempt to scan for ALL CasperLet systems you can access. When one or more of them fails, you get an error message like the following:

Couldn't schedule a scan for units owned by ((number)) avatar(s) due to insufficient permissions

This message will never affect scanning of units that you own.

Will Not Make Units Appear

Please note: NONE of these methods will force a rental unit to suddenly appear on the website. These methods will only REMOVE rental units from the site list that are not currently contactable.

This may remove rental units from the list that are still inworld - this is normal, if they're not currently able to be seen (due to sim/region-to-website communication issues) - they will return once they are actually used inworld - scanning does not delete any existing units.
